    Default Bugging In...

I was thinking about putting a BOB together, but after researching and taking my situation into consideration, I think the best bet would be to 'bug in' if things went south rather quickly.

I have a wife and two-year-old little boy, so grabbing my bag and rifle before heading for the hills is no longer an option. I think the best option is to get home, hole up, and try to ride things out for as long as possible. I'm thinking a smaller bag, no more than 15-20lbs, to get me from point A to point B if I can't get there by vehicle for whatever reason. 5 or so mags for my daily carry, fixed blade, first aid kit, water, maybe an energy bar, change of pants and socks, light jacket, poncho, map and compass, etc... Nothing serious, I shouldn't ever be far enough from home to have to camp overnight, but who knows, maybe a tarp and some parachord to throw up a shelter?

    Thoughts, critiques, opinions?

Sounds like a good set up with the bag. I think the tarp and cord are an excllent idea.

I'm thinking what if there's a hurricane or something were you couldn't be home ?

If the emergency were an incoming storm or something of the like, I should have enough warning to get home, load up the truck with everything we would need, grab the fam, and get the f*ck out of dodge.

What do you do when there's no gas and no food in the stores and the cops have all bugged out?

Load all the guns, board up the windows and stay put for as long as possible. Then venture out only when necessary or the threat has passed, I guess...
