    Default 16 Gauges?

Ever wonder what happened to 16 Gauges? My father used to have one and it was the 1st shotgun I ever shot. Heck, you can't even buy ammo for them in stores. I imagine they were phased out due to the fact that 12 and 20 gauges adequately cover a variety of purposes.

16's to me are the best shotgun ever. to bad they have been phased out over the years.almost the same amount of shot as a 12 with the recoil of a 20'
Great house gun if you care to cut off your grandaddies barrel off.
Mine are both bolt action J.C Higgens. Best rounds of trap I've ever shot is with them 24 out of 25. You can get shot shells here in Augusta for them but I've had order buckshot and slugs from a hardware store in Wrens Ga.cause they were willing to get just a few boxes.
F15H (who is a member) had an old Weatherby twice barrel that was the best skeet gun I'd ever shot .
    BRING BACK THE 16's

Oh, I forgot to say. I have a single shot 16 that my neighbor gave me last year. He has a bunch of them.

I have an Ithica Model 37 pump "sweet 16" and its one of the best shot guns I've ever owned. I shoot skeet and trap with it, have hunted doves, squirrels and rabbit. Not phased out just a little harder to find the ammunition at regular places. Typically you need to go to gun stores, or the like, but its out there to be had.

My 16 will blow a tree rat slap out of the top of a 100ft. pine any day. Havn't had the happen with a 12 or 20 they just kill them and maybe they will fall to the ground.

You cant beat a 16 gauge they are so much more comfortable for shooting for a long period of time a 12 gauge is nice but it will do a number on your shoulder

Two things almost killed the 16. Nobody ever came out with a 3" chambering for it and a lot of folks think you need the "Magnum". The other thing is there is no 16 Gauge class in Skeet. 12, 20, 28 and .410 are the divisions. That dried up a large market for ammunition.

    I prefer a 12 but I load and shoot 'em all - 10 through .410.
