    Default Creeksides 3 gun

I learned a lot of stuff, as always the buzzer makes me stupid. Going into the last stage of the match I dropped from a solid third place into a distant 7th.

I screwed the pooch BIG TIME.

Yesterday June 20th 2010 Creekside Firing Range had another multigun match. It was HOT, and I mean HOT. We shot 4 stages all as a single group, stage one was all shotgun, stage 2 was all rifle, stage 3 was shotgun and pistol, and stage 4 was a mix of all 3 guns.

Creekside has some new props to use for matches now, a swinging target, 2 drop turners, a texas star, and 3 Colt speed plates, 2 equipped with clay poppers.

Stage one was set up as to shoot 3 slugs thru a port in a barricade, 2 at a classic IPSC target, and one at a steel silhouette from about 40 yards. From there move up to a box maybe 10 to 12 yards up and engage the texas star, 5 plates spinning is interesting, there were 2 Colt speed plates with a clay popper attached, knock the speed plate down, it falling throws the clay in the air. From the same box that you engage the star and the two speed plates from, turn 45 degrees to the left and there was another classic IPSC target and a silhouette to engage with a slug again. From there move left and engage 5 clays on the berm, and a third Colt speed plate this time with popper throwing 2 birds in the air.

Stage two was all rifle. Started off with a 20 yard target with about 4 inches of scoring area showing the rest blocked by a no shoot. From there move up to a barricade about 15 yards and engage targets from there again all Classic IPSC targets and blocked in various ways. From there, move to your right 3 yards to a pair of barrels and shoot between them and under a barricade to make you shoot from either kneeling, prone or squatting. From there again move to your right about 5 yards and pull the rope, activating the swinger and the two drop turners.

Stage 3 was shotgun and pistol combined. Engage the 3 speed plates with your shotgun, throwing 3 birds in the air, then shoot two birds on the ground off to your right one about 20 yards, the other maybe 10. From there move up and left to the other side of the pit and engage 6 clays on the berm to your left and one infront of you on the back berm. When done throw your shotgun into the barrel ON SAFE if there was ammo in it. That was it for shotgun, from that firing position there were three paper targets to your left to engage with your pistol, the texas star, and two paper targets on your right.

Stage 4, my big mistake. All three weapons were involved. All started loaded on a table infront of you. At the buzzer, pick up your rifle and engage three targets to your left, and down the rifle back on the table in the SAFE position. Pick up shotgun and engage the star, when done again down the shotgun back on the table on SAFE and transition to your pistol to engage the three speed plates, middle plate was leaning forward and required a shooter to "drive" the plate back. This time the drop turner and swinger were activated by the RO either when all three plates fell or you called PULL.

So how did I mess up the last stage you ask. Rifle ran fine, moved onto shotgun, my foolish self who knows better than to start on the bottom of the star, started on the bottom, instead of the top and working my way around from there. Then to the speed plates, instead of trying to drive the middle plate down I figured I would take the FTN penalty of it and move on to the drop turners and the swinger ..... I called PULL right in the middle of a slide lock reload, WHAT A BONEHEAD MOVE. Get reloaded and the drop turners have dropped and turned, only thing left is the swinger. So a slow time of 80 plus seconds from chasing the star and 2 FTE with a FTN only added to my dismal time.

On the plus side I did get a chance to look at some really nice weapons being produced by Head Down Products. More on the rifles being offerd by HDP in another post. Its 4:55 and I need to get in the shower before going to dinner with dad on this Fathers day here in 2010. To the fathers that are reading this, happy day.

    YouTube - Creekside 3-gun 19 June 2010

My hatcam video from the match. I missed recording the rifle stage cause I ended up going first. That wasnt all I missed on that stage It was my first 3-gun and I learned a lot. Mainly, consistancy is the name of the game. Overall I took 4th which wasn't bad for my first outting.

That popper on stage 4 pissed me off. I tried to get smart and load some 147grn blazer that I had never shot before for a little extra power to knock it down. Didnt work and I found out my pistol does not like blazer.

Anyhow It was a good time, cant wait to do it again
