A buddy of mine bought an 8mm Mauser that he bought from a similar service for a price like that. From what we could tell is that the rifles had been refinished but the overall quality of the weapon and the parts were bad and couldn't hit paper 10ft away. I would be sure to check the weapon out before making a purchase unless you are just looking for something that goes bang.

On the 8mm mausers you will need to slug the barrel to get the true diameter. It can be either .318 or .323. American ammo is loaded down for this reason and gives you 30-30 type ballistics. Both Remington and Winchester shoot about 2200fps. The surplus stuff we purchased shoots 2400-2600 fps and gives much better ballistics. We slugged ours and it is indeed a .323 one and we hand load for it. We have it up around 2800 fps and if is now giving 30-06 type ballistics.

It has a lot of free bore and we cannot seat the bullets far enough out to engauge the lands so we crimp and let um jump. I would love to have the barrel on this mauser set back and chamber recut to shorten the free bore but still leave everything orignal, but basically the gains would not match the price.
