I dont like aks (except my Saiga 12) much but I aughta get one of those for the cheap ammo if nothing else.

Good luck finding a 5.45 AK at a decent price any more. Since word got out on the cheap ammo, the prices of rifles and mags have gone through the roof.

day late and dollar short as always. the new J@G flyer has AK 74's for $349.95 though

AIM should have those new 5.45 uppers sometime next month. I think they are going to be under $500.

J&G advertises the SAR-2's, but my understanding is they haven't had in in stock in a while.

MGS is taking pre-orders on the 5.45 uppers, but IIRC they are 600+. As others on arf have pointed out S&W hasn't earned a good rep for quality since they've been building AR uppers. I expect these to have problems and cleaning an AR style gas system for corrosive sounds like a pain.

My reccomendation would be to buy a kit and have someone reputable build one for you. ORF is still making them too, and they're prices don't seem too bad any more.

Here's Mine. Ready to reconfigure it though. I wanna put the wood forend back on and a side folder. Oh yeah, and a extended selector and Tapco trigger group.
