with the brake I can put it on the bench bipod up front rabbit ear bag in rear, without holding the front I can pull the trigger and the bipod never leaves the bench.

honestly folks if you have never shot a braked rifle, and i am not talking a browning boss type brake but a true multi baffle design (mine is a 4 baffle) you cannot even imagine. It pushes harder than my 223 but not as hard as my 788 243 with a regular barrel. I have never shot anything in between the 223 and 243 but this 308 with 165's kicks somewhere in between. This thing is a blast from the bench and does not wear you down.

And for the 308 doesn't kick group, the 308 and 30-06 are very close on the recoil chart shooting same grain bullet and it has been my seat of the "shoulder" expierance as well.

I will eventually brake my 243 and any rifle I have work done on will get a brake threaded on.

We are in the process of having my dad's ruger 270 sporter weight barrel braked! Cannot wait to get it back and test her out. He has a shoulder injury and needs as much recoil as possible removed, and he does not want a new rifle, just his ol 270. He does not want "girly" reduced recoil loads either, just a "girlie" brake with full tilt loads.

I can't wait to see how your dad's rifle turns out! I have a Remington model 700 in .270 also.
