    Default 405 grains of goodness.............

Wow these 405gr Remington projectiles I got in for my 45/70 are HUGE! Now I need to get some dies and powder. Anybody here load for the 45/70?

For years the only factory load for the .45-70 was that 405 grain bullet @ 1,320 FPS. Killed everything I hit with it, including small to mediun-sized trees.

I load for it, but both of my guns are Trapdoors, so I keep pressure (and velocity) low. I have some 405 grain JSP loaded, 43.0 grains of Alliant's Reloader 7, but haven't shot them yet. Usually I load cast bullets in the 400 to 500 grain weight range. Anything lighter, I get fliers about 50% of the shots.

I've reloaded a number of 300 grain bullets but haven't used the 405. Try looking at
    marlinowners.com.
