Thread: Loaded ammo this weekend. .45 & .454

I had my single stage Rock Chucker just humming. I loaded 430 rounds of .45 Colt, all with 8.0g of Unique behind a 250g RNFP. Also loaded 154 rounds of .454 Casull with 7.0g of Trail Boss behind the same bullets, 250g RNFP. Now I just need to figure out how to get more range time... Great therapy reloading is for sure!

I am still tweaking some loads for my cz 762x39
right now I load 155 bthp .308 with 26 grains of h335--shoots under an inch at 100 yards--when I use the lead sled
the group opens up at 27 grains
going 26.5 next
looking for under 1/2 inch

Can't sllep, so I just loaded some .45 Colt myself. 255 Grain LRNFP with 6.8 Grains of Green Dot. A good range load. Being frugal (some calls it cheap), I use GD instead of Unique. Takes less powder that way.

How does the GD do compared to unique? I have just always used unique forever.

Speaking of changing.... I just finished up sizing/flaring/sorting 700 .38 special cases. I've used Unique but mostly HP-38 lately. I bought a pound of Universal to try, so I will most likely load up 50 soon. I'll let you know on mine. My Unique is about gone after that batch of .45s.

For light loads, Green Dot is real good. Lighter charges than Unique, so it's a little cheaper to use. I want a heavy load, I use LIL'GUN mainly.
