Default How to cook and prepare a T-Rat

Let's say I shoot a squirrel...brain shot. or heart and lungs.

How do I skin him and get him ready to eat if I'm in the woods and have access to fire and a good knife.

Doesn't have to be gourmet, just wondering the basics about getting the good meat to eat.

Getting the hide off is the first step start around the tail but leave it on as to put foot on it when you get ready to pull it off cut hide down the center of belly all the way to neck then small cuts for the legs slit hide up toward back and Pull up to neck cut head off and clean insides out ....This is my .02 cents worth

Thank you...that sounds simple enough. I'll try it next time I'm out.

I cut a 2" slit in the rats back, then I grab and pull apart. the skin comes right off.

    Here comes the fun part....

For old rats parboil first until tender. Take old and young put in a cast iron skillet and fry like chicken.

then take the left over grease and make gravy.

then take your biscuits that have been cooking in your other cast iron skillet out of the oven and have the BEST BREAKFAST KNOWN TO MAN!!

Parboil all rats, then put in a baking bag with veggies and your favorite seasoning. bake until falling apart on 350 (usually 2 hours or so).

HAHA...I can tell. I can definitely think about frying some.

How about just telling me what parts are safe to cut off the body, put on a stick and roast over the fire?
