Adding snorkles will change the air flow to the motor, so yes it's a good idea to do some tuning once you've got them completed. If your set-up is more restrivtive than stock you will be too rich, and will need to lean it out. If your set-up is less restrictive than stock you will be too lean and you will need to richen it up. One very important thing to remember about jetting: it's always safer to be too rich than too lean. Running a motor too lean for an extended period can cause heat issues as well as potentially burning a piston. When I tune one, I always start as rich as I can, and work my way down.
If you want to dial in the jetting perfectly you may want to look into something like a Wide Band Commander 2.
How do you know when it's right?
Most people use the SOP method (Seat of Pants), but to dial it in perfect you need to do plug-chops (checking sparkplug colors) and data log the Air/Fuel ratios. If your bike runs decent after you snorkled it and doesn't bog down, back fire, rough idle, etc. then your jetting is probably pretty close. It may just need some needle adjustments.
Ah I see...........you mean let somebody else do it lol....
That is exactly what I was thinking. I like fuel injection better.
Thats why I aint ******* with mine yet.
The snorkel didnt seem to change anything but I know if I add a new exhaust system I am going to have to get a programer (EFI). And to tune said programer properly is going to require a wide-band 02 and a data-logger, which is more money and effort than I really care to spend. Right now I make more pewer than I can use anyhow.
Wonder how hard it would be to build my own turbo kit though. If I have to get a programer and wideband anyhoe thats a big part of the battle right there.
The turbo would be awesome
