Thread: Rat 3

Anybody have a Rat 3 or an ECEE RC 3 and if so,how do you like it? Trying to choose between that or a Becker BK11.Rat has a little longer blade and more sheath options.Becker + teck lock+ scales=about the same price.

I had an Ontario Rat-3 that I gave to the ex-wife prior to her deployment. I also have a Beker bk-11 on as I type this. I don't own any ESEE (Rat) blades but I'm probably going to order one soon.

I cord wrapped the handle on my BK11 and use paracord to attatch it to my belt. I got the kniofe for $5 dollars at Ranger Joes and have really enjoyed it. It makes an excellent EDC fixed blade.

The price difference between the ESEE and Ontario Rat are not very big, so I would go with the ESEE, its supposed to be a supperior product and has a lifetime, no questions asked warranty.

Between the ESEE RC-3 and BK11 I think this is going to boil down to what you want to spend and what you plan to do with the knife. I see them in different roles and their prices set them in different classes of blade, IMO. Both good knives, just different and for different purposes.

Thanks for the reply.I'm thinking I might get more enjoyment out of the becker with just cord wrapped handle.Cheaper and would not feel bad actually using it.I have been known to pry with my knives.Quite a few times this did not work out to well,especially with folders.RC3 is close to $100.00.Becker is $40.00 or so.You typed $5.00 by accident,right??

I forgot the 3...it was $34.99 at Ranger Joes if I recall correctly. I ment to type $35. I have a feeling most people will get more use out of the BK11 due to its size and price. I have no problem thrashing on any knife reguardles of price, but I fall into the minority I think. Do keep in mind though, if you end up with an ESEE (Rat) RC3 it has a no questions asked lifetime warrenty. You break it and they will replace it. So if you do get one, dont be affraid to use it.
