With his biggest boar ever!We were slipping in a hardwood area near a drain, and I was really getting bummed out because the leaves were so crunchy.Thankfully the wind picked up to help cover our noise. We had been easing along for about 30 minutes when I saw a hog ahead of us on the firebreak.
I grabbed Larry by the arm to stop him...Pointed out the hog,but he had no good shot.I am about 6" taller and could have smoked him easy, but it wasn't about me.I kept trying to get Larry into position,He was using my 12ga Ithaca model 37 deerslayer(hogslayer now..lol),and when he got a clean shot he took it.The Federal 1oz sabot slug hit the boar in the head right between the ear and eye.Down he went, and here he comes back up!
We were running to him when he tried to get up,and I popped him right in the shoulder with a Winchester 1oz foster style slug out of my 11-87 auto.He fell back down, and tried to get up again.I hit him again right behind the jaw,and that was it.3 VERY lethal shots..1 VERY tough hog.I've never seen a hog take those kind of hits, and keep trying to go.
I aged him at 5yrs old,and he was a hybrid. He was in the 180-200# neighborhood.1 3/4",and 1 7/8" cutters.Got the boars good side turned to the camera for pics.
