Thread: Triumph!

I had to work until 6pm,but I had about 25 min of shooting light left.Petain said I needed to come from the north side of the block,and he would come from the south.He had found some rooting.On the way there I saw 2 hogs in an offlimits area,2 deer in another off limits area,and then saw 5 more deer before I turned off!Wow the game was moving!I got there,and saw 2 groups of 4 deer while slipping.Right at the last bit of shooting light I saw 4 hogs.One was a big boar,and he was trying to breed a sow.He was running her everywhere,grunting,and huffing at her.Chasing her down,and trying to mount her...Well I don't take to kindly to bullies,so I slipped to within 100yds in the wide open,and when he was broadside I took my first shot at game with my new T/C Triumph .50cal. shooting 150gr pyrodex pellets,and a 250gr shockwave.

I heard a thump,and a squeal. He ran like he hadn't been touched!I listened,and thought I heard him crash.Me and tommy linked up,and went over where I thought he crashed.We heard a hog bellowing,and easing away. Man I hope that isn't him!We decided not to push it,and back out.The temps were going to get down to around 19 so no big deal.I told tommy we should look a minute just to make sure.I walked about 20yds and looked where I thought I had heard him crash...THERE HE WAS!!Nice 200# boar with a 2" and 2 1/4" cutter.Solid black.He's a mounter,but I really want one with color.

So Tommy paid me back in a big way for helping him earlier.That's what it is all about.Helping each other,and having fun!

Thanks guys.Stan I went back today and aged him at 5yrs old,and he was a hybrid.

He definitely is still sporting the winter coat. The boar I got a week ago was too. That late winter thick "fur" is neat looking. Them summer hogs can get pretty ugly with the sparse hair and don't make as nice a mount.

I agree with you PLP. The winter coat looks like it will make a better mount.
