Default PLP Jr is on a streak!

Took my 8yr old son out today.I knew with the rain clearing hogs would be on the move.As luck would have it we found where 1/2 dozen hogs just crossed.Me and Jacob started our stalk.

I've been teaching him how to read tracks, and use the wind to his advantage. We started tracking the hogs in the mud,and found some fresh rooting.A quick swing in the area, and I found their path again. We kept tracking them, and then I saw them out in front of us.

He was ready to shoot right then, but I wouldn't let him. They were about 50yds.Since they were 40 pounders I decided it was too small of a target. We checked the wind, and began our stalk.10 minutes later I had him 25yds from one of the pigs.He made a perfect shot, and dropped her in her tracks.I snatched up the gun,he stepped behind me(we rehearsed this several times),and when I got a good shot on one of the others running I took it.I hit her right behind the jaw,and exited left side of the head.DRT.Dad and son double!!!!

So after we got them out I wanted to try another spot that my friend Tommy had seen some, and it was the same vacinity Dinty took his red boar.We checked the area, and I found 2 hogs. One black, and one brown one.We slipped to within 45yds,and I noticed the black sow was sagging, and had half a dozen piglets.I told him not to shoot her,to shoot the brown one.I set up the shooting stick, and held the gun tight to the tree.I told him to wait for her to turn broadside, and when she did...BAM!Dropped her in her tracks!!!I coulda easily smoked the big sow,but there was no sense it doing that.I can't stand to take a sow with tiny piglets. They need to make it to atleast 25#.Maybe she will raise us up some more to play with another day.

PLP jr doubled making it his 2nd and 3rd hogs ever.!Boy I just don't know what to say!I would have never believed he could do so well with my .30-06.He sure is making his daddy proud...Learning how to hunt "The old fashioned way"..:biggrin2:

Eric has a pic of me and jacob with all 3,but here is a good pic of jacob and his 2.

Even indians laid down their bows, and picked up guns....
