Default Fireworks in the woods this weekend..

My friend Dinty came down from Rome to try and fill his freezer with some pork before he moves to OHIO.He got his first 2 down here with me last year, and true to form he was fun to hunt with.He gets as excited as anyone I have ever seen.

Saturday morning we finally got to go out together.I wanted to check a spot out that was hot 2 weeks ago,but unfortunately(for them..lol)we ran into some hogs at another spot my friend Tommy had been seeing them.In less than 5 minutes Dinty had a nice eatin' size red boar down.I had to go to work,so hunt was over for me.Dinty had a few close calls, but no luck.

This morning we got back together, and I wanted to hit a popular spot before anyone else could get there.I checked another spot first, and lo and behold we found half dozen porkers making their way towards the bedding area.We got in position between them, and where I believed they would go...Here they come, and the fog rolled in with them.

Dinty was having a hard time with the fog,his glasses, and scope. Before he knew it a 130# sow was 10yds away, and closing,he did the count down..tried to shoot her,and i think she bolted when she heard him say 3.He shot, and then I shot one I was on,he went down..I looked back at Dinty and his hog was rollin out, about that time I looked back to the one I downed, and saw a big boar coming full steam!!30..25...20...15..10 BOOM..rolled him!(or I thought)I looked back at dinty, and saw his sow was making a wide loop..I asked him could he see her,and he couldn't I told him I would take her if she stopped, and she did about 160yds out..I let it fly free handed,THUMP!!!..she dropped!..About this time the big boar was getting up,and I dropped him back down.I had only grazed him across the head with the first shot.

Well when it was all said and done 3 were down.We loaded them up,and tried the original spot. There was a nice boar out there, and we closed to within 125yds.Dinty took the shot, but it was a miss.We later found out the rifle was off some, and with the bad angle it was surely a clean miss.I couldn't find any blood, and never heard a thump.

So Dinty is heading up to Ohio with plenty of pork.We had a great time, and it was fun as usual to hunt with someone who likes to hunt the old fashioned way...

Even indians laid down their bows, and picked up guns....
