Default Range Report: Taurus 605 vs Ruger SP 101

Range Report: Taurus 605 vs Ruger SP 101

    Both revolvers are .357 Mags
I shot Fiocchi, 142 gr FMJ, .357 Magnum through them.

Here are the revolvers Here are the revolvers - Ruger SP 101 on top, Taurus 605 at bottom.

    The 101 set me back $447.00; the 605 $357.00.
The 101 fully loaded weighs 28 ozs; the 605, 25 ozs.
The 101 has a barrel length of 2.25 in; the 605, 2 in.
The 101 has a satin SS finish and the 605 has a brushed SS finish.
Could have been my imagination, but I think the SP 101 didn't recoil as quite as forceful as the 605. Maybe those extra 3 ozs made a difference.

Here are pics of the targets, you can draw your own conclusions - never missed the black, ever.:

Session 1 - Taurus 605 - Target on left, first 5 shots I fired upon arriving at the shooting range (I was "fresh"). Target on right, 5 more shots. All at 7 yds.

Session 2 - Taurus 605 - Same target you see above, but I backed it off to 15 yds and fired 5 more at the left target and 5 more at the right target.

Session 3 - Ruger SP 101 - Target on left, 5 shots as before, at 7 yds, Target on right, 5 more shots at 7 yds. Getting a little tired now, may be affecting my aim.

Session 4 - Ruger SP 101 - Same target you see above, but I backed it off to 15 yds and fired 5 more at the left target and 5 more at the right target. Glad to be done.

    Well, what do your think?

I thought so too. I'm a Ruger man, but that Taurus does shoot good.

Thanks for the compliment, but I'm just a good ole boy who enjoys shooting.

    Thumbs up Nice shooting!!

Very nice shooting and both being snub nose, yet. Looks very close to me, also. Nice groups. I also enjoy shooting handguns. Have 3 that I am fond of, a .22 cal Browning Buck Mark, 9mm Glock 19 and a .40 cal H&K USP. Am hoping to get out to a range soon. Might pick up some more ammo later today for all 3, getting low. Also, want to see what's doing since the election. Yesterday, legislatures in NJ were to vote on a .50 cal ban bill. Bill was put on hold, so no vote, at this time. Not sure if that is good or bad, yet.

You can't beat a good old 22. I have a Ruger Mark III with Millett Red Dot scope on top. That is one fine shooting gun.

I have a Glock 27 (.40SW) and I bought a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel for it. Now, my G 27 can shoot .40 or 9mm. I also have a Kel-Tec PF9 and for the price, it is a good little gun.

Very nice collection. Nice to be able to use either cal with your G27. I did get out and load up on ammo for my 9mm and .40. Have plenty for the .22. I have night sights on all three pictols and double clips. Used to shoot a couple of S&W mags. .357 and .44 long bbl. Both got too heavy for me to handle. They were gorgeous...blued with textured wood grips. Sold 'em back in 92. Almost wish I didn't have to, but was necessary at the time.

What kind of night sights and where did you get them? Been thinking about putting some on my Springfileld 1911 A1.

Hack, am not sure what kind. Came with the guns when I bought them. They are just easier to see for me as I have very poor vision in my right eye. Had to switch to shoot as a lefty because of that.
