    Default 6.8mm vs .223 opinions

Looking at a Ruger mini 14 for my one long gun. What pros and cons do you see in chosing between the 6.8mm or .223.

I think the .223 ammo is more readily available than the 6.8mm.

Sorry that's all I can add.

After looking into it I understand the 6.8mm is more of a hunting round.

You won't be using yours for hunting?

I use my AR15's in .223/5.56 for hunting most of the time.

Is there a reason your looking at the mini-14 pver the AR platform?

I've shot both quite a bit and very much prefer the AR platform. Its much more ergonomic, mags and accesories are cheaper and more plentiful, nt to mention accurracy is far better with the AR.

As for the 223 vs6.8, I would stick with the more common caliber.
What is your intended purpose for the rifle?

Shot a buddy's mini 14 20 + years ago. Don't remember much about it. Just looking for a long gun for recreational shooting. No hunting. Hoping to find a better deal on a mini 14 but prices have gone up on them like the AR's. Hopefully pricing on used guns will come back down and I can find a nice used AR!

If you can't buy the AR15 complete buy it a piece at a time. That's how I built mine......easier on the wallet
