Well I am doing it Finally
I am taking my rifle in for operation.
Donar rifle is a Remington 700 ADL 243 that I picked up at WalMart on clearance for $275.00 2 years ago and still got my $30.00 mail in rebat so final rifle price was $245.00. Not to bad for a Remington, and I purchased this rifle with the intent on rechambering to 308 anyway since I already had 3 other 243's.
Well within a year I finally found a deal on eBay for a VLS new take off laminate stock for $60.00 shipped. I was given the bottom metal for free and had to install it. Now up to $305.00
Of course it looked a little goofy with the extra clearance due to a sporter barrel in a varmint inletted stock but the stock felt and shot so much better.
Still wanting it to be a 308 I scored a 308 VS SF II SS Fluted heavy take of, ironically $60.00 shipped. Now up to $365.00.
Now I needed a gunsmith and I set out looking for one. The barrel swap was being quoted anywhwere from $100.00 to $150.00 with every and I mean every gunsmith telling me the writing most likely would not line up, and offered no suggestions on doing it where It would line up UNTIL I called Jarred of Patriot Arms. His charge is $175.00 and right out of the gate he begain telling me of the machine work he was going to have to do to line up all the writing and stuff. So finally I will have a 308 VLS in Stainless for $540.00, tell me if you find a new one for this! as all my parts are new take offs. Plus I got the enjoyment of "building" it.
Truely in awe that he brought this up out of the gate I decided on him. Now after talking with him I have now decided to let him thread the barrel and install their Fat Bastard muzzle brake, lap the lugs and do a trigger job.
It will take about 45 days but I am so excited and it should be done right around my Birthday!!!
