Well it looks like I'll miss it again.

I tried finding more information on the Appleseed Project, but no one got back to me after I got this message:

Your registration request at Project Appleseed has been received, Five2one.

The username you registered with was Five2one.

Before you can login and start using the forum, your request will be reviewed and approved. When this happens, you will receive another email from this address.

    Regards,
    The Project Appleseed Team.
Maybe I just missed the emails . Either way, I emailed Russ for more information.

    Maybe I wasn't approved.

    Shoot went well.

Saturday started with a brief lesson on the first strike of the match, April 19,1775. That was the battle at Lexington green. The other two strikes (Concord and Mariam corner)were spread out throughout the day. The history always helps people understand where we come from and what the Appleseed program is about.

Started out with our standard "Red Coat" target. We shoot that to give people a baseline as to what they can do with their equipment just as they showed up. No different than if they had grabbed their rifles at the alarm of "The regulars are out" that April morning in 1775. This target pretty simple looking at first glance. 4 targets that simulate a COM hit at 100-400 yards each one gets three shots. One last target that simulates a 250yrd headshot that recaives one shot. Nobody cleaned the target and very few hit more than the 200yard shot. That knocked the wind out of the sails of most of the line and get them prepped to learn. Which is exactly the point.

After that we moved to shooting 5 round strings at 1" squares from prone, offering blocks of instruction between each target. Shooters learned about the steady hold factors of the prone possition, and proper sling usage. Most new Appleseeders were unaware that a sling had any purpose in marksmanship. By the end of the weekend they knew very well what a sling was for. Then we went over the 6 steps of firing a shot, and finally natural point of aim.

Once they were semi-comfortable with the prone possition we moved to sitting and then standing. Also practiced transition drills from standing to sitting and prone. By the end of saturday we were knocking out Army Qualification Targets, which we use to evaluate shooters. A 210 out of 250 points earns you the coveted riflemens patch.

Sunday I took over the firing line. Our Master Instructor delived a speach before we began that earned him a loud and long round of applause. He explained our mission, how it ties to the history, and what we mean by "Men who know very well what they are about".

I started them out on one inch squares to check everyone sights and get them back in the bubble. IMO Riflemen are forged on 1" squares, they are only proven on the AQT. Afterwards we started the AQT grind, giving shooters as many opertunities as possible to earn their patch. We did a couple fun shoots and mag change drills just to break things up. I also ran them through two NPOA drills that really seemed to make the concept of "natural point of aim" click in some of their minds.

Ultimately only two shooters earned the Riflemens patch this weekend out of 42 (I believe) shooters. I would have liked to see a few more, but it is what it is.

Everyone seemed very happy with the weekend and the program. The instructors recieved much thanks and praise sunday afternoon which was greatly appreciated. Most said they would be back for another Appleseed either here or closer to home. Many expressed intrest in becoming instructors (after earning their patch) or setting up shoots of their own which is our ultimate goal. Mission accomplished in that reguard.

On a personal note; Friday I was presented with the instuctors Redhat. So now I am officially an Instructor with Project Appleseed and worked in that capacity all weekend. I truely feel honored to work with such a worthwhile program.

For those that have yet to attend an Appleseed please check:
