My son got a 410 shot gun and while I was out hunting I shot and the barrel split only about one and half inches from the front..
Question is can I cut it off about half inch behind the split and still keep a tight patten????????????????????

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
Piss on it and walk away
What made it split? Obstruction?
Do you have any other options than cutting it off? I'd do it.
Glad you didn't get hurt. I'd buy a new barrel, no telling what kind of stress was put on the barrel...............may be worse next go around.
Yes I do have other opitions Buying a new Barrel is the one I may do... It has a 26 inch barrel cut it down to 23 Can't find any stress factors in the tip But very leary about it

Were you shooting Steel or HeviShot? They'll ring or split an older barrel up at the choke pretty quick. If you were shooting good old Lead, something was flawed in the barrel - unless there was an obstruction. If you cut it back, pattern will open considerable, but, on the biighter side, there's no more constriction to start another split. Pressure in the barrel forward of the first 6 inches is pretty low.

Thanks all I am considering on calling winchester and see what they have to say
Buy a new barrel from them or what ever

new barrel. I would be very worried about internal stress after that.
