Default US carbine, caliber .30, M1

This is the famous M1 Carbine. Mine is an Underwood with a 3-1944 dated barrel. It is still a great shooter, capable of 1 MOA groups with UMC .30 carbine ammo.

It is a CMP rifle, that was traded to me from a friend of mine. He wanted to get every manufacturer as the CMP released them, but they released them more than 1 manufacturer at a time. The wallet just couldn't keep up. So here she is.

My grandfather on my mother's side was in the artillery of the 3rd army during WWII in the ETO. He and the rest of his unit were issued M1 Carbines for self-defense. He told me they never used them, but they were glad to have them, just in case.

I have an Inland Division carbine, bbl stamped 1943. I agree, they are beautiful weapons, and are really fun to shoot. Dependability also comes to mind, as a minimum of maintenance keeps them shooting. I always thought the .30 cal Carbine round got an undeserved reputation as weak. If you compare it with the German 9mm round for the Shmeisser submachine gun, and the 7.62x25 Communist Chinese burp gun round, the .30 cal Carbine round ballistics come out on top. I think it is a fine home defense weapon. The main drawback is the ammo is very pricey these days.
