Thread: Thoughts on M&P15R

Was looking at purchasing the 15R. Thoughts on 5.45x39mm ammo. What companies make it/how available is it? I want to put a red dot sight on it and wondered how the fixed front sight would affect it?

Is the only ammo available surplus or wolf?

Don't know about the ammo, but as far as the red dot goes, a lot of them will co-witness with the irons. Shouldn't be a problem.

for the most part yes.

So you guys would stick with the 223. Not sure the price trade off in ammo is worth going to the 5.45 due to availability.

personaly I would stick with 5.56, its everywhere (usualy)

Another thought on the subject, apparently there is a work in progress to ban some imported ammo. That said, I would stick with a popular american round.

That makes sense to get one in a common caliber. you can always put a .22 conversion on it to save money on ammo.
