Default Fired my first reloads through my new AR15

Fired my first reloads through my new AR15

I reloaded 55g SPBT infront of 18g and 19g of IMR 4198 and they produced nice tight groups.

I put one of my Millet Red Dot 1x scopes on top and it really made the difference. I didn't get along well with the iron sights on my M16 in the 82d and I still don't - 40 years later. That's why I used a red dot. Sighting in was easy.

The problem was that I was using 3-inch Shoot-N-See target and out past 75 yds, I couldn't make 'em out enough to aim. So, I decided to get a real scope for it.

I googled to get some ideas on what AR shooters with scopes were using. Read about Barska, Nikon, BSA, Pentax, Bushnell, to name a few.

I knew I wanted an illuminated red dot in a variable power scope, so I settled on one made by BSA, a 3x-9x,40mm Illuminated Red Dot Scope - I bought it from oneclickshooting for $57.57 and that includes S & H, too.

Here's what it looks like and the specs. These are not the folks I bought it from but it is a nice presentation of it for you all to see.

Now, I'm gonna load up the ammo I shot up today and after my new scope comes in, go back and "fire for effect", so to speak.

2 cents worth or not be careful with gas guns when reloading.
some reloading books don't give diff. loads for gas guns and other guns.
Serria has a section on reloading for ar's and the max loads are lighter than the bolt guns

What he said. I got the Serria book because it has a section for the AR15's. I have a pretty good Vmax load for my hunting AR15.

I looked and found the data on p218 in my Sierra book. The loads there start at 19.7 of IMR 4198 behind a 55g bullet.

I realize now that my reloads of 18g and 19g were low, but danged if they didn't shoot good.

I think I'll try 20g next. But, then again, the smaller charges of 18g and 19g will make my pound of powder last longer and in today's "Out of Stock" times, that is good.

If you got good groups out of a min load that's good! Just like you said you'll save on powder. I've made three loads for my hunting AR15 and one is max load(Win 64g Power Points), one is min load(Win 55g FMJ) and one is in between(50g Vmax).
