Default Sound Suppressor - WOW - expensive.

Sound Suppressor - WOW - expensive.

I was watching the Outdoors Channel, one of those shooting shows, and saw one that featured sound suppressors.

They stressed that it will not make the sound go away, it won't sound like "pffff", like in the movies, but maybe more on the level of a "weak" .22. I thought, I got to check these out for my Oly AR 15.

So I did, I couldn't find many sources, but the ones I did find, I found these suppressor things are expensive. $500+. That cooled me right off.

So, if any of you guys know of any good, but less expensive sound suppressors, I really appreciate a link.

In the meantime, I'll just keep using my cheap earplugs.

    Take care

Ummm Jack has a 556 can for his AR and I just ordered one for mine. We both hacve cans for our 22s already as well.

Joe has an integral suppressor on his MKII. Theres pick of all that on this board somewhere.

I'm running a YHM Mite on my and its not bad. Not really cheap though. TIs one of the less expsive cans but will still cost you about $250 plus the 200dollar tax stamp.

Jack and I will have the same YHM 556 Phantom. They are, again, one of the least expensive 556 cans on the market. Still its about $550 plus the stamp.

If you ever wanna try out a sepressed waopon let us know and we'll take you shooting.

For a 556 though $500 is as cheap as you can hope to get. Like I said that doesnt include the tax stamp which is basicly a $200 transfer fee.

Cap is waiting on his paper work to come back.

I've shot my 5.56 YHM Phantom a little and to me it sounds like high velocity .22lr.

Don't let Hollywood fool you. There is not such thing as a "silencer". They are called sound suppressors. Meaning that they suppress the sound, but most of all the flash. Sound suppressors are designed to reduce sonic "crack" and dramatically reduce muzzle flash as to not not give away your position in low light conditions.

Suppressor aren't cheap. Thats no secret. There is a lot of thought that goes into suppressor design and the material in which they are constructed are not cheap. And on top of that is the $200 stamp. In my opinion though, it is completely worth it. They reduce felt recoil and muzzle blast, making for a more enjoyable shooting experience for a beginning shooter. Oh, did I mention they are cool?
